OLDSMOBILE O4
Another gorgeous convertible, this time using an Opel platform from Europe with North American sensibilities layered on. Olds says the O4 translates to "open air, four-season fun that seats four comfortably but can pass for a sports car as well." Key Innovations in the O4 would include an "Info Ring" minimalist instrument panel with reconfigurable displays, a flexible, lightweight targa top that allows several roof configurations, and ultra-bright projector beam lighting front and rear. The future of this one I wouldn't care to guess about.
PONTIAC REV
This is a toy that Pontiac says is a "muscle car that's right at home on dirt roads" because it "blends a Firebird's torque and road handling with an SUV's versatility" and as result delivers some serious fun for a youthful driver." What REV isn't is "just another concept that promises to be all things to all people." REV's power comes from a 245-horsepower, 3-liter V6 sending 245 horsepower to all four wheels. Primary innovations in the REV would be the reconfigurable display on the instrument panel, interior and exterior materials borrowed from high-end sporting equipment, a rear cargo compartment with dropping end-gate for lower loading, and headlights that track with steering. This one I also think we'll see in the near future, though maybe not with all of those techno-toys.
As I say, this kind of stuff would be interesting on its own, but to think that many of these vehicles will actually make it into production says truly amazing things about the future of General Motors.
