That said the Sixteen, executed for production with the same hand-detailed exactness as this show car, could be the car to bring cachet back to the Cadillac nameplate. With its V16 power accessible by an eccentric dual-panel center-hinged hood, long, low and lean sensual style, and superb fit and finish, the Sixteen could be a low volume, but important element in Cadillac's future.

For now we'll just have to wait and see if the GM designer previously mentioned was indeed tongue-tied in an effort to hold back some deep, dark production secret, or just a good actor messing with a gullible journalist. If you believe what Bob Lutz said recently at the Automotive News World Congress, and it might be accurate being that he oversees all new GM product development, the Sixteen as it was shown last week won't make it to production.

Lutz said the concept would be "a very difficult vehicle to execute." But, he added, Cadillac will likely have a large car at approximately "eight-tenths scale" of the 5,673 mm (223.3 in) long concept. Much of the Sixteen's styling cues will probably show up in that vehicle, but power will likely come from the brand's new V12. Lutz added, "The probability in coming years of seeing something like the Sixteen with that character, that grandeur and, yes, that price, is pretty high." But he added it would take several years to develop.

And while we're waiting we could contemplate the next great depression, or maybe dissect the conspiracy theory?
