The roof is all glass while no B-pillars mar the view from side windows, creating an open airy cabin. "The lighting is architectural, enhancing the mood and desirability of the Cadillac Sixteen's interior space, complementing its shapes and colors," stated Eric Clough, interior designer. "Technique combines with technology for a sophisticated, pampered ambience."

The technology mentioned includes a rear-seat DVD infotainment system, Bose audio system and 5th generation OnStar in-vehicle safety and security communications. While the Sixteen might not feature as many techno gadgets as the Maybach, and may not overpower with the in-your-face presence imposed by the Rolls-Royce Phantom's intimidating grille, it offers a graceful elegance, an American sense of luxury that the European luxury cars can't quite equal.

"The Sixteen is a modern interpretation of everything that made Cadillac the standard of the world and can again," said Robert A. Lutz, GM vice president for product development and chairman of GM North America. "It's a reminder of a glorious past as well as a progressive statement."

Yet will it see the light of day? That's difficult to say, but I did get a little bit of insight on the subject while chatting with one of the designers after the initial unveiling. He caught himself in the middle of his words, telling me that he was working on the production version already - his embarrassing glow of red let on that I probably received a little more information than he would otherwise have been willing to divulge.
