Though power is nice, torque is what really characterizes the CLS. At 413 ft-lb, this car can deliver rocket-like in-gear acceleration. From a standstill, the car reaches 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. If not for the electronic governor, no doubt this slippery car could see the far side of 280 km/h in optimal conditions.

Performance is important in the sport coupe category, however, who said performance only concerns acceleration and top speed? The CLS demonstrates dynamic performance in another way - fuel consumption and emissions. Although it can be put through its paces, the relaxed character of a turbodiesel engine lends itself to wafting around in higher gears. Of course, as a result economy benefits, this particular one yielding 7.5 L/100 km. While the CLS has the range and consumption abilities to literally cross countries, it maintains the Euro4 Emissions regulations. Applied for both gasoline and diesel engines, this emissions test ensures that all cars (including diesels which we presume to be dirty) are environmentally friendly. If produced I'm sure that Mercedes-Benz will broaden the engine range by adding a greater selection of gasoline engines. In V8 applications, there is a high probability that M-B's new 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic will be used.

Opposed to the deep ruby exterior, the CLS interior is chic, modern and trendy. Illuminated not by interior lamps, the bright and airy surroundings are from the glass panels above. Light, yet rich leather trims the doors, seats and dashboard in an unusual diamond pattern while wood accents the steering wheel, center console and other trim areas.
