Choosing temperature, fan speed and vent direction is an extremely simple process, especially if the climate control system is kept in automatic mode. Both driver and front passenger have separate controls, which is the usual for this class of car, with all functions displayed in a horizontal LCD monitor that is easy to read day and night. Again, I have no complaints.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention Saab's amazingly slick cupholder, situated between the audio and climate interfaces, to the direct right of the OnStar communications system - also part of the package. While Europeans once laughed at the audacity of North Americans for featuring pop-out beverage holders, now their engineers have embraced the 'technology' with an especial verve. The Saab's complex piece of artisanship will wow your passengers, make you a hit with the kids and impress your neighbors. OK, maybe that's going a bit far, but the Swede's have built one of the hippest cupholders around.

Saab's cool high-end key fob is an excellent third party marketing tool, showing up on restaurant tables, barroom counters and country club change rooms as a unique conversation piece. (Photo: Shawn Pisio, Canadian Auto Press)

Cool gadgets in mind, Saab's high-tech ignition key is as impressive as they come. There's no traditional metal 'key', but rather a sculpted nib that slots into the lower console, in Saab tradition. Immediately when attached systems are engaged, with the opposite taking place when pulled out. Remote access functionality is integrated into the same fob simplifying operations. Saab is smart to spend the extra money on the one item owners take with them wherever they go. A high-end key fob is an excellent third party marketing tool too, showing up on restaurant tables, barroom counters and country club change rooms as a unique conversation piece. I've witnessed it time and time again.
