Inside, the W8 is equipped with all the creature comforts expected in a high-end sport sedan: power everything, very little cabin noise, and comfortable seats. Room in the backseat, as with all Passats, is a little tight for taller folk.

Some critics have complained that the W8 is just an excessive exercise in engine building, noting there is no need on the planet for a Passat with nearly 300 horsepower.Maybe so, but to my way of thinking, the big eight-cylinder engine is the German automaker's way of telling the planet, in a not-too-subtle fashion, "We're baaaaack!"
