The X3, being an entirely new model, allowed the designers the luxury of starting from scratch with no previous biases. Still BMW has come up with a relatively conservative design, very similar to the current X5. This is a good thing, evidenced by the aforementioned petition, as BMW clientele tend to abhor radical change - even though many are self proclaimed early adapters. Go figure?

The X3 headlamp and taillight treatments will be the most talked about, but in my opinion are wonderfully executed, pulling from BMW heritage cues at the rear. Bangle's use of interacting concave and convex surfaces is less dramatic than on the Z4, but still evident in the design language.

The classic "Hofmeister kink" in the rear quarter windows, an often copied styling treatment, has been given a new twist, kicking up dramatically as it nears the D-pillar. A one-piece tailgate looks similar to the X5's split design, but nevertheless should provide easy access to the cargo area.

On that note cargo space is reportedly generous considering the size of the vehicle in question, with ample room for golf bags, mountain bikes and the like. As is currently popular, BMW has added a number of convenient storage bins throughout the cabin to make it livable.
