Being that Chrysler commissioned AMG, Mercedes-Benz's high-performance division, to create the motor makes it seem obvious where it came from. But M-B's V12 is a 6.0-L unit? Is this an altogether new powerplant made to the domestic brand's specifications? According to Chrysler it is, with AMG signed up to deliver a V12 with at least 800 horsepower and roughly a weight of 230 kg. The light weight was achieved by the use of high-tech alloys and dry sump lubrication, while the mind-blowing power was generated through the use of four turbochargers as well a dual-core intercoolers. The performance figures are staggering really, with this beast of an engine spooling 6,800 rpm and a specific maximum output of 142 horsepower per liter. One hundred km/h should be achievable in an estimated 2.9 seconds, with 160 km/h in 6.5 before topping out at over 400 km/h before taking flight - theoretically at least.

In order of significance, after the engine comes the chassis and overall structure. After creating an engine so literally explosive, it was important for Chrysler to engineer a worthy rolling stock. Thus, an aluminum and carbon fiber monocoque was developed with separate front and rear ends that can be replaced separately to simplify post-accident repairs - depending on what's not disintegrated after hitting the wall at 400 km/h.

At all four corners the ME Four Twelve utilizes a pushrod-style active suspension system that uses fluids to maintain a controlled ride. Working in conjunction with the onboard computer, this setup features five presets to allow for different driving situations. They range from race-track to highway and urban settings, altering the amount of wheel slip via the advanced traction and stability control systems. Steering is tight at 2.4 turn-to-lock, pointing a seriously adhesive set of 265/35 ZR 19 front and 335/30 ZR 20 rear wheels and tires.
