The Titan was Nissan's most significant new review at Detroit, despite the importance of its all-new Maxima sedan and Quest minivan. The new pickup marks only the 5th major automaker to ever venture into the full-size light truck market, dominated by Motown's Big 3. (Photo: Trevor Hofmann, Canadian Auto Press)

Its fenders swell in chiseled muscularity, especially pronounced at the rear, while the taillights display a unique triangular shape from profile view, but when seen from the rear align vertically with the truck's liftgate - the latter component designed to present a clear unmistakable impression of its Nissan truck lineage. The Titan is no 'me-too' truck, incorporating fresh design ideas and open-ended thinking. It looks tough and menacing while simultaneously appearing sophisticated and civilized.

The last three words of the previous paragraph just happen to define the Titan's interior design and execution as well. Pickup truck aficionados wanting to move up to a new level of refinement need look no further than Nissan's new offspring. It simply displays the best driving environment available in this category to date.

The Titan's interior achieves new levels of refinement inside too. All materials are top quality while fit and finish is superb. (Photo: Trevor Hofmann, Canadian Auto Press)

From an interior design perspective the Titan appears much more upmarket than even Cadillac's Escalade EXT, with a 3-spoke steering wheel that looks as though it was lifted directly out of the new 350Z sports car. A metallic-finished center stack, that visually flows overtop the black soft-touch plastic dash, offers a handy open-top storage bin. It also seamlessly integrates the audio system plus heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) components into one, top-tier home audio style interface. Just below, a wide, flat console incorporates the gear shift lever, surrounded by the requisite storage compartments and adjustable cupholders. An especially large bin sits under the center armrest lid as well, complete with a 12-volt power adaptor and movable dividers.
