The Fluence is a very interesting study, pulling parts from various sources together to make a bold statement of style and performance. Could it be a future

While Renault seems to have looked to a variety of rivals for influence when designing the Fluence, it still comes across as a fairly unique design statement. (Photo: Renault)
Alpine in the making (Alpine was the French brand's rear-engine super coupe built from 1955 to 1994)? If built, will its reliance on Nissan parts contribute to Renault's reentry into the North American market? And if the French automaker does return to North America, will anyone here care? All are questions that have no definitive answers, at least outside of the hallowed walls of Renault's executive boardrooms.

In the meantime, the Fluence is a styling exercise that could only be French. While some continue to laugh at the storied carmaker's creations, others revere them as uniquely elegant. The Fluence might just be the car that signifies an even more cooperative relationship with Nissan, which could make it the most important new Renault in decades, and the one to lead the brand back into North America if produced. Mere speculation? Maybe.
