In theory, the Ragster could be powered by any motor fitted to the 'A4' chassis Beetle. Everything, ranging from the durable

Like previous VW concepts, there's no doubt that the Ragster could be produced. (Photo: Volkswagen Canada)
115-horsepower 2.0 liter I-4, to the high-performance, 180-horsepower 20-valve 1.8 liter turbo, to the torque 1.9 liter PD-TDI could be used. Mechanically unchanged, the Ragster uses a stock gearbox that drives the front wheels.

Volkswagen has let its imagination run free and in doing so has delivered yet another imaginative concept for Detroit, but this one might have a future. In the mean time, expect to see the New Beetle get a mild exterior facelift some time during 2006, featuring some of the same components as on the Ragster, sans roof.
