The Futura will debut in early 2005 as a 2006 model with an expected annual volume of 150,000 units. It is expected the new Ford will take over Ford's Atlanta assembly plant that will be left vacant after the Taurus it replaces goes out of production. It's also possible the new model will be built in the joint-venture Flat Rock, Michigan facility where the next generation Mustang is also scheduled to be assembled.

Either way the Futura, even as a two dimensional rendering, catches the imagination. It's an attractive styling exercise that will most likely look at least as nice in the flesh. I know I'm not alone in requesting a real hands-on experience in Detroit next year and I'm sure Dearborn will deliver. Until then Ford can make you a great deal on a new Taurus.
