Addictive
We can sit for hours in the G35x without getting tired. The seats' power-adjustment buttons have been relocated on the flanks of the seat cushions instead of on the sides of the centre console. Besides a little road noise from the tires, the cabin is pretty quiet.

The revised interior offers supportive seats and plenty of technology.

The rear seats are very comfortable for two people, but not as much for three, since the middle seat isn't really inviting, and the transmission tunnel obstructs the footwell. And curiously, the rear seatback angle is no longer adjustable like in the old G35. Also, the seatbacks can't be folded down, which limits the car's cargo capacity.

A sexy shape
I really like the look of the old G35, but the new one is even prettier. Rounder, sleeker, more sensual, it flaunts both muscle and finesse. This sedan must be highly efficient aerodynamically, because a bee abruptly shortened its life by getting squashed on the door handle while I was driving on the highway, which I noticed while getting out of the car.

Since the 2006 G35 already was a beauty, Infiniti didn't need to redesign it with a clean slate. Inspired by the M, the bigger sister of the G, each corner has been rounded off and each crease has been softened. There is now a dual exhaust, which always looks nice on a car's posterior. The result is a sedan that turns heads and that will be appealing for years to come.

Competition
There is an interesting selection of luxury all-wheel drive sedans. The G35x costs $43,390, and the as-tested price, which includes the Premium ($3,300) and Navigation ($2,950) packages, climbs to $49,640. Here is a quick look at the competition, similarly equipped and including all-wheel drive and a navigation system:

Audi A4 3.2 Quattro with options, 255 horsepower, $53,715;
BMW 335xi with options, 300 horsepower, $58,595;
Jaguar X-Type 3.0 with options, 227 horsepower, $51,700;
Lexus IS 250 AWD with options, 204 horsepower, $53,800;
Lincoln MKZ AWD with options, 263 horsepower, $45,684;
Mercedes-Benz C280 Avantgarde 4MATIC (navigation n/a), 228 horsepower, $46,100;
Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Spec.B (automatic n/a), 243 horsepower, $44,995;
Volkswagen Passat 3.6 4MOTION with options, 280 horsepower, $48,010;
Volvo S60 2.5T AWD with options, 208 horsepower, $51,345.

The '07 G35x will launch to 100 km/h in 6 seconds.
