The Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder have always been cars with undeniably scandalous looks. The latest-generation machines, dubbed by many as 'affordable exotics', have just gone under the knife for some plastic surgery. Their reveal just took place at the 100th Chicago Auto Show.

The sleek new models now sport new wheels, revised front and rear fascias, and a selection of great new colors including "Solar" yellow. GT models get a tuner-style rear wing which recalls Eclipses of the nineties, and available dual-outlet exhaust sits under a new rear bumper.

There's a new front bumper too- which is perhaps the Eclipse's most striking visual feature. Bringing the car in line with Mitsubishi's performance-car styling language, the new bumper sports an open look with a thick bar across the centre- a la Evo. It's a powerful design element that opens up the front of the car and invites onlookers to ponder what's under the skin.

A four and six cylinder powerplant is available- with a 2.4 litre, 162 horsepower or 3.8 litre, 265 horsepower engine. An automatic or manual transmission can be had with either.

It may be the dead of winter, but there's plenty of time to decide on a color for springtime!
