Volkswagen's just taken their flagship Passat sedan and added a healthy dose of sleekness. The new Passat CC model was on display this auto show season at various venues across North America, showing a new styling direction for the brand while redefining an existing type of vehicle.

Though Passat CC is a sedan, it elegantly wears the body of a coupe. Wide, energetic and proud, the CC's flowing roofline allows it to visually slice through the air while enabling a low drag co-efficient for increased aerodynamics. Various accents like fog-lamps, chrome, mirror turn-signals and large wheels adorn the body- which is capped by a massive tilting sun-roof to let in the rays and fresh air on sunny days.

When the weather isn't so appealing, shoppers will be happy to know that the Passat CC has them covered. It's available with a 3.6 litre V6 engine mated to an all wheel drive system called 4Motion, which works with no driver input to find traction on virtually any surface. Basic models come with the German automaker's award-winning 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 200 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is standard, and the entire package rolls on 17 or 18-inch wheels.

In European markets, the CC will also be available with a 300 horsepower version of the 3.6 litre engine, as well as several diesel powerplants.

Inside, the CC provides comfortable bucket seating for 4. Shoppers can expect premium build quality and materials, alongside an elegant and functional interior layout and some cutting-edge new features. For instance, a park assist system will be available, which can steer the CC into a space on its own during parallel parking maneuvers.

A lane-departure system further utilizes the car's ability to steer itself and can re-direct the vehicle back into its lane automatically should it begin to stray. Sensors in the front of the car can maintain a pre-set following distance when the cruise control is activated, and the same system can also pre-charge the brakes in anticipation of a collision that it calculates to be imminent.

Enhancing comfort and driver enjoyment is another system called Dynamic Drive Control. By selecting from 'comfort', 'normal' or 'sport' settings, drivers can select a pre-set attitude for their voyage while the system adjusts shock-damping and power steering sharpness for each.
