Hyundai’s popular Accent has been successfully showing the small car marketplace what the Korean brand is made of. Available in sedan and three-door configurations, Accent is celebrated for its surprising spaciousness, efficiency and refinement. It’s an ideal buy as a first car for a young shopper, or as a second family runabout.
Chrome and body-colored trim convey a more upscale appearance than the price lets on, and a tall roofline emphasizes the interior capacity. In fact, total interior volume measures 2,962 litres, with cargo capacity rated at 351 litres. That’s enough to put the Accent above most competitors.
For 2010, pricing starts at $13,599 for the 3-door model with 5-speed manual, and $14,299 for the sedan. All models get a standard 1.6 litre engine with 110 horsepower, backed by 106 pounds feet of torque. Though a five-speed manual transmission is standard, a four-speed automatic can be specified.
Folding rear seats add to cargo carrying versatility, while air conditioning, keyless access, heated seats and power accessories are all available. From basic to loaded, Accent has something for virtually any shopper.
Inside, occupants are treated to contrasting colors and textures for an upscale feel, while the driver benefits from numerous seat adjustments and a tilt steering wheel. An MP-3 compatible CD stereo system with four speakers is standard.
Safety is handled by 6 total airbags, and front seatbelts use pretensioners and load limiters for maximum protection. A total of six standard airbags are on board as well.
If you’re considering a value-focused small car that hits well above its weight, be sure to give the Accent a test-drive.
