It is often difficult to mess with an icon and BMW found out first hand when the previous generation of the 6-Series was unveiled. To most enthusiasts and the car buying public, the car was nothing more than an ugly shadow of its former glorious self. Even so, the 6-Series sold well but we can't help but think that BMW was extra careful when they penned this beauty.

Subtle, sleek and powerful are all terms that clearly identify the big bimmer's new found shape. BMW reps candidly mentioned that this is nothing more than a “study for a premium-class 2+2-seater” but everyone that has seen the car will agree that nothing more need to be done in order to make it production ready, at least not aesthetically.

The cabin is sumptuously appointed and retains the gauges that have become synonymouswith BMWs, as with the kidney grilles. Many controls, audio and HVAC, are lifted from the latest Bavarian such as the new 5-Series.

Numerous trends have emerged from the Paris Auto Show. One of them is matte-finish paint jobs and another is full LED headlamps. Brighter and less energy hungry than all other types of lighting, they need only a designer’s pen to look good. And they so do on the 6.

Official under-hood details are scarce however it is nearly obvious that at least one version of the 6-Series will feature BMW's latest 4.4L turbocharged V8 which should be good for 400 hp. Mated to an 8-speed autobox, it should be very fast and, not to mention, fuel miserly. Next, expect an M6 with a mere 600 hp, enough to tear up the Autobahn along with the fastest and most expensive offerings from the other German makes.
