Martin Laplante, who works as a programmer and is a father of two, heard Annie’s call in 2009 but only decided to sit under the razor this year.

"I’ve been growing my hair for nearly two years now and for a purpose," he explains. "The idea is to not only raise money for cancer but also to allow someone to make an actual wig out of my hair. I’m killing two birds with one stone."

"It’s a personal challenge and an excellent way to raise awareness," he claims. "People are always kind of joking about my hair, so I have a great opportunity to tell them precisely what I’m doing. I was able to collect extra money from one week to the next."

On May 14, Auto123.com members will have their heads shaved to profit Leucan. Similar events will take place across the province throughout the months of May and June.

"If you don’t want to shave your head, that’s fine; you can come in and support those that do or simply go to www.leucan.qc.ca to make a donation online," says Annie Lafrenière. "The important thing is to do something, anything, so as to give hope and support to cancer-stricken people.
