Ford’s Derrick Kuzack, group vice president, Global Product Development, briefly outlined the overhaul the Lincoln products will be going through in the coming years. Fuel efficiency will naturally be a priority, making this the perfect opportunity to expand the reach of the popular EcoBoost engine in the luxury brand’s lineup.
The 2012 Navigator will be one of those inheriting Ford’s star engine, in this case the 3.5-litre, twin-turbo V6 powering the Ford F-150. The Navigator is also scheduled for some light touch ups
The 2013 MKS sedan will feature an optional 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder EcoBoost mill, coinciding with a major face-lift.
The good news is that this is just a taste of what’s in store, as Ford plans to offer the EcoBoost for 90% of its products by 2013 and 8-speed automatic transmissions should be cropping up soon.
Knowing that Lincoln promised that its next models would represent a major evolution in terms of design and considering the big part the EcoBoost technology has played in Ford’s comeback, the results will undoubtedly be interesting.
But will it be enough to bring the ailing brand back to the forefront? We’ll have to wait and see.
