Lineup expands with AWD models
Suzuki’s SX4 hasn’t seen major changes since 2007. In car years, that’s a lot. The Japanese brand has been struggling recently in Canada, and recently met up with a few members of the media to give us a look at what’s coming for the 2012 model year, as well as explain what they plan to do to get some momentum back. This includes the compact SX4.

SX4 Hatchback
For 2012, the SX4 JA remains the base version of the 5-door model; however, a new JA iAWD trim will be introduced, so Canadians can benefit from all-wheel drive for less money.

The JA will feature standard keyless entry, a 4-speaker CD/MP3 player, air conditioning, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a rear window wiper, 15” wheels with covers, a trip computer, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 60/40-split folding rear seat and — now standard on all trim levels — electronic stability control.

The JX FWD and JX iAWD models are also back this year, sporting a $550 price drop. The JX trims add cruise control, wheel-mounted audio controls, 16” alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors, roof rails and fender flares.

The range-topping JLX iAWD is also carried over, which includes a 9-speaker stereo, automatic climate control, an intelligent key system, fog lamps and heated front seats.

The 2012 Suzuki SX4 Hatchback goes on sale this February.

SX4 Sedan
For 2012, the SX4 Sedan gets new base trim that has yet to be named, and will cost about $2,300 less than the JA model.

As with the SX4 Hatchback, electronic stability control is added to all trims, while the base version gets power windows, locks and mirrors, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 4-speaker CD/MP3 player, front-seat armrests and 15” wheels with covers. As is the case with the Honda Civic DX, the Toyota Corolla CE and the Mazda3 GX, air conditioning is not on the standard-equipment list.

The SX4 Sedan JA adds A/C, keyless entry and a 60/40-split folding seatback, while the Sport trim also gets a 9-speaker stereo with wheel-mounted controls, automatic climate control, cruise control, an intelligent key system, aerodynamic add-ons, 17” alloy wheels, fog lamps, a leather-wrapped wheel, heated front seats and a $550 price drop.

The 2012 Suzuki SX4 Sedan arrives in January.
