2015 Audi SQ5 Preview

Pros: The 2015 Audi SQ5 is one of the most stylish CUVs on the market, and also one of the most pleasant to drive thanks to a fantastic engine and Audi's renowned quattro all-wheel drive as standard. The interior is a showcase of exceptional craftsmanship and refinement. Compared to the regular Q5, this model stands out with increased power and performance, racier looks, and more competent brakes, among other things.

Cons: Cargo room isn't impressive, the control layout takes some getting used to, and the ride is firm and a bit noisy. The rearview camera doesn't come standard. Also, the engine proves quite thirsty, especially with a lead foot, and no dual-clutch transmission is available.

2015 Audi SQ5 Price: The SQ5 starts at $57,400 in Progressiv trim. The more upscale SQ5 Technik, which adds adaptive xenon plus headlights and heated rear seats while offering many exclusive options, retails for $59,600.

2015 Audi SQ5 Fuel Economy: The official ratings for the 2015 SQ5 -- adjusted from 2014 using Natural Resources Canada's new 5-cycle testing procedure -- are 14.1L/100km (city) and 9.9L/100km (highway).

Improvements and Changes: None. The SQ5 was launched a year ago.

Powertrain: The 3.0L supercharged V6 under the hood of the 2015 Audi SQ5 produces 354 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque, leading to 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds, along with a top speed of 250 km/h. Power is routed through an 8-speed Tiptronic autobox and Audi's legendary quattro all-wheel drive system.

Cargo Capacity: The trunk can swallow 824 litres of cargo, and about twice as much with the rear seats folded.

Safety: The 2015 Audi SQ5 relies on stability and traction control to improve handling when conditions get slippery. Audi Side Assist is available to monitor blind spots. In the event of a collision, six airbags can deploy (eight optionally), while a system automatically cuts the fuel supply, unlocks the doors, and activates the hazard lights.

Comparing the 2015 Audi SQ5: The Porsche Macan, BMW X3 xDrive35i, Infiniti QX50, and Volvo XC60 T6 AWD are other high-performance compact luxury CUVs with all-wheel drive.
