Class and sophistication

Pros: Looking for class and sophistication behind the wheel? Then the Merc E-Class is the sedan for you.

Cons: Despite a host of engine choices and models to choose from, the E-Class is not offered with a manual transmission for the ultimate auto enthusiast.

2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan Price and Fuel Economy: There are five E-Class sedan models to choose from, ranging from diesel to a raging AMG version. The pricing is as follows (base MSRPs):

  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz E 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC $59,500
  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz E 300 4MATIC $60,500
  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz E 400 4MATIC $68,300
  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz E 550 4MATIC $76,300
  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC $110,600

Fuel numbers vary and range depending on the model chose as engines differ across the lineup. However, the best fuel numbers are found with the diesel-powered E 250 BlueTEC that has a combined rating of just 7.4L/100km. At the top of the model range, the E 63 AMG S-Model will achieve a combined rating of 13.3L/100km.

Powertrain: There are four engines available across the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan lineup. At the “bottom” of the bunch sits a diesel-powered 16V Bi-turbo mill that powers the E 250 BlueTEC and is good for 195 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Move up to the E 300 4MATIC and you’ll find a DOHC V6 unit that produces 248 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. Then the V8s step in. While the same 32V Bi-turbo unit sits in both the E 550 and E 63 AMG, they’re tuned differently. In the E 550, you’ll find 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, whereas in the E 63 AMG S-Model those numbers jump to 577 ponies and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Across the board, a 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-spee automatic transmission is found, save for in the AMG model that features an AMG-bred version of the same set-up. All E-Class sedans feature Merc’s all-wheel drive system (4MATIC).

Changes and Improvements: No major changes have been made to the E-Class since its extensive refresh in 2013. However, the next generation is in the works to be revealed soon.

Cargo Capacity: Across the lineup, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan offers up 540 litres of trunk space and seating for five.

Safety: The 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan comes equipped with all manner of standard safety equipment and airbags along with DISTRONIC PLUS with Steer Assist (to keep you in your lane), BAS PLUS with Cross Traffic Assist, PRE-SAFE Brake with Pedestrian Detection, PRE-SAFE PLUS (which assesses a rear-end impact with rear sensors and adjust occupant protection accordingly), ATTENTION ASSIST, and COLLISION PREVENTION.

Comparing the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan: BMW 5 Series, Volvo S80, Audi A6.
