2015 Scion xB Preview

It’s hip to be square By ,

Pros: If you’re in the market for something a little different and quirky, then the 2015 xB is the car for you.

Cons: The xB hasn’t really seen any major upgrades or changes in a few model years and is in desperate need of an update to keep up with the competition.

2015 Scion xB Price and Fuel Economy: There is only one version of the xB available, however, depending on which transmission you choose the price varies slightly. For the xB with a 5-speed manual transmission, the starting price is $21,033 (including freight & PDI and dealer fees). Opt for the 4-speed automatic and that price jumps to $22,053 (with the same extras included).

Expect to achieve 9.8L/100km combined for both the manual and the automatic transmissions.

Improvements and Changes: For 2015, a limited edition (only 50 will be available in Canada) called the Scion xB Release Series 10.0 features an exclusive Electric Quartz exterior colour that also features subtle green highlights throughout. Tungsten grey wheel covers are also standard, as is a green Scion light stamp that illuminates on the ground below the rear bumper. You can also charge your phone wirelessly in the centre armrest charge tray.

2015 Scion xB Powertrain: The 2.4L 4-cylinder engine under the hood produces 158 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque thanks to intelligent variable valve timing. Transmissions include a standard 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic. No all-wheel drive configuration appears on the xB’s menu.

Cargo Capacity: Versatility is one of the strengths of the 2015 Scion xB. The trunk alone can hold up to 329 litres of cargo. Folding the rear seatbacks forward creates a flat floor that multiplies cargo possibilities.

Safety: In addition to six airbags, the 2015 Scion xB benefits from Toyota's STAR Safety System, which consists of Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Smart Stop Technology, and Brake Assist. A tire pressure monitoring system is also included.
