Pros: The 2015 Toyota Prius v is a larger, stretched version of the popular Prius, making it more attractive to families after versatility and fuel economy. Like all Toyotas, it boasts superb quality, reliability, and high residual value.

Cons: Despite a larger size, the same Prius engine resides below the hood making for a sluggish feeling drive.

2015 Toyota Prius v Price and Fuel Economy: There is only one Prius v mdoel available, with three trim levels to choose from on top of that. Pricing is as follows:

  • 2015 Toyota Prius v Standard $27,990
  • 2015 Toyota Prius v Luxury Package $29,995
  • 2015 Toyota Prius v Technology Package $33,995

Despite being much larger than its brothers the regular Prius and the teeny-tiny Prius c, the 2015 Prius v manages almost the same fuel efficiency numbers. In the city, you’ll see the Prius v reach 5.4L/100km, and on the highway that number drops to 5.8L/100km for a combined rating of 5.6L/100km. Not bad for a mini minivan.

Improvements and Changes: For 2015, Toyota upgrade the Prius v’s exterior look, replacing the rather bland front façade with Toyota’s brand new, and much more aggressive and modern-looking front grille. Along with the new front end, Toyota also added new colours to the lineup: Absolutely Red, Attitude Black Metallic and Toasted Walnut Pearl. Otherwise, the Prius v remains unchanged mechanically and technologically.

2015 Toyota Prius v Powertrain: Under the hood is a 1.8L 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine mated to an electric motor and CVT. Net output of this hybrid system is rated at 136 horsepower. The Prius v also features ECO mode, EV mode and Power mode options while driving.

Cargo Capacity: The cargo area in the Toyota Prius v is quite roomy, offering 971 litres for your luggage. Fold the rear seats, and you get 1,906 litres.

Safety: Standard features include stability and traction control, disc brakes with ABS, brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, as well as smart stop technology, which automatically cuts engine power and allows the brakes to take precedence over the accelerator when both pedals are pressed at the same time.

Comparing the 2015 Toyota Prius v: Volkswagen Golf wagon TDI, Ford C-Max, Hyundai Tucson FCV.
