Pros: It’s an Acura so you know it’s going to drive well, and it offers up all the luxury and amenities you’d want in a 7-passenger luxury SUV.
Cons: The Acura brand lacks the luster that some of its competitors have though the MDX is an excellent product.
2016 Acura MDX Price and Fuel Economy: There are four different 2016 Acura MDX models and their prices are as follows:
- 2016 Acura MDX $52,990
- 2016 Acura MDX NAVI $55,990
- 2016 Acura MDX TECH $59,990
- 2016 Acura MDX ELITE $64,990
The same engine is found across all four MDX models; however, the fuel economy numbers vary slightly on the ELITE thanks to a start/stop engine idle feature. So, in the MDX/NAVI/TECH models the fuel economy is rated at 12.7L/100km in the city, 9.1L/100km on the highway, and a combined rating of 11.1L/100km
Now, the ELITE’s numbers are 12.2L/100km in the city, 9.1L/100km on the highway, and 10.7L/100km combined -- so, not hugely different, but different nonetheless.
Powertrain: As mentioned above, there is only one engine found in all MDX models and it is a 3.5L i-VTEC V6 mill that produces 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. A new 9-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. The 2016 Acura MDX also has a towing capacity between 3,500-5,000lb.
Changes and Improvements: For 2016, the Acura MDX features a new 9-speed automatic transmission for the first time, replacing the 6-speed auto that was there before.
Cargo Capacity: The 2016 Acura MDX can seat up to seven passengers, and features 447 litres of cargo space behind the third row. Fold that third row down and that space increases to 1,277 litres.
Safety: The 2016 Acura MDX features the latest in standard safety equipment and airbags, as well as child seat tethers in both the second and third rows, Collision Mitigation Braking system, Lane Departure Warning system, Forward Collision Warning system, Lane Keeping Assist system, as well as three-row curtain airbags with rollover sensor.
