Meet the most fuel-stingy non-hybrid car in North America

If you’re looking to benefit from the best possible savings on fuel use, but you don’t want to lose all that trunk space to a large battery, you might be interested to know that the new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car in North America.

In fact, its consumption rating is a stingy 4.5L/100 km on highway when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission (the rating for city driving is 7.7L/100 km). Owners who choose the available 9-speed automatic transmission, which includes fuel-saving stop-start technology for the engine, will get city/highway ratings of 5.0L/100 km and 7.7L/100 km, respectively.

Propelled by a new 1.6L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel is available at a starting price of $24,195 for the manual-transmission version, and $27,995 for the model with automatic transmission.

Explained Shane Peever, Brand Manager for Chevrolet Cars in Canada, “With its unparalleled fuel consumption rating, the Cruze Diesel delivers durability and torque in a package that suits our customers’ diverse lifestyles and driving habits”.

A hatchback version of the Cruze Diesel will be added to the lineup before the end of the year as a 2018 model.
