More power, safety, and style

Unveiled at the 2016 New York Auto Show back in March, the new and updated 2017 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid are ready to hit the Canadian market with even more value, safety, and convenience for active families, not to mention updated styling and improved performance.

First, all 2017 Toyota Highlander models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P. This new package enhances driver confidence and safety for everyone on board using a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as a Pre-Collision System (with forward collision warning and automatic emergency brake, plus Pedestrian Detection), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High-Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

Aesthetically, there’s a new upper and lower front grille design on all models. Each grade is distinguished by unique grille finishes that also carry into the headlamp housing. Those headlamps are also new, featuring an eye-catching LED tube design. At the rear, the LED taillights present a sleeker profile.

Toyota has added a brand new, sportier-looking SE model to the Highlander lineup for 2017. This one boasts unique 19” black alloy wheels, a unique sport grille, black-painted roof rails, special ambient interior lighting, second-row captain seats, unique black leather-trimmed seats with silver stitching, plus an exclusive exterior colour: Salsa Red Pearl.

The cabin of the 2017 Toyota Highlander has been refined, too, with new trims and the addition of several USB ports (for a total of five).

As for performance, conventionally powered models get a revised 3.5L Direct Injection V6 that now generates 295 horsepower (up from 270) via a new 8-speed automatic transmission, while Hybrid models receive an updated Hybrid Synergy Drive system producing 292 horsepower (previously 280).

Toyota also promises improved fuel economy with both, although the exact ratings have yet to be announced. Same thing for prices. We’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, you can read our latest review of the 2016 Toyota Highlander as well as this other one.
