Luxury vehicles are often mobile laboratories for manufacturers who want to test out new technologies. Because of the prices asked for these models, and the profit margins they generate, automakers can afford to slather them with the latest and most costly gadgets around. The one that always makes me smile in the 7 Series is the gesture recognition system, which allows for doing certain things by using hand of finger movements in front of the touchscreen. A camera picks up the actions and the system reacts accordingly
It never ceases to amuse, even fascinate… and it’s pretty effective, overall.
There’s more in there, and there’s more to come as well. And as I said, the more expensive the car, the more it has to constantly up its game to stay ahead of the competition. A tech arms race, in other words…
