The new, limited-edition 2018 BMW M4 CS, unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2017, will soon be available in Canada, with pricing still to be confirmed. With this model BMW is filling the gap in its lineup between the M4 with Competition package and two M4 models higher up the echelon: the exceptional track-minded M4 GTS and the M4 DTM Champion Edition, introduced last year.
The 3.0L, 6-cylinder high-performance engine delivers 460 hp, an increase of 10 hp over the Competition-package M4, via a 7-speed M dual-clutch transmission. The car’s M TwinPower Turbo technology helps give it a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of only 3.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically capped at 280 km/h (174 mph).
The geometry of the adaptive M suspension has been optimized both for on-road and on-track driving. On the celebrated Nürburgring track in Germany, in fact, the BMW M4 CS clocked a lap time worthy of the fastest sports cars on the planet: 7 m 38 secs. A good part of its performance success can be attributed to the exclusive semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, fitted on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels.
In the cabin, BMW has replaced a good part of the standard M4 covering with Alcantara suede, notably on the M sport seats. Outside, the hood and roof are constructed of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.
