At Auto Shanghai 2017 taking place this week, BMW’s M division unveiled a limited edition of the new 2018 M4. The CS fits in between the M4 with Competition Package and the spectacular M4 GTS, which was designed principally for the track.
BMW has made no announcement as of yet regarding the number of units of the CS edition that will be made available for North America.
The 3.0L inline 6-cylinder, twin-turbo engine of the M4 CS will generate 454 hp, 29 more than the regular M4 and 10 more than the Competition package-equipped M4. It is wedded to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that allows for 0-100 km/h acceleration in only 3.9 seconds. It’s been advanced by BMW that the CS lapped the Nürburgring track in 7:38 minutes.
Distinctive visual elements of the BMW M4 CS include exclusive light-alloy wheels – 19-inch in front and 20-inch in back – Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic for the front spoiler, roof, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. The organic LED rear lights make for another unique visual signature.
Inside, Alcantara suede is used in replacement of much of the M4’s standard covering, and this is supplemented by trim elements that have the look and feel of carbon fibre.
