Yes, Virginia, it's faster than the Ford GT

The new 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 made quite a splash when it debuted last fall, and interest remains more than strong for it among our Auto123.com readers. Which means that you’ll certainly be glad to learn that it has just set a new lap record for a production car at Virginia International Raceway, beating out the Ford GT and other supercars in the process.

The feat was accomplished by a coupe equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the Performance ZTK package; this includes an adjustable carbon-fibre spoiler, a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. Cars with this package also have specially tuned chassis and Magnetic Ride Control elements.

“The Corvette ZR1’s lap record at VIR, arguably America’s most challenging road course, is a testament to its supercar status. On the racetrack, the ZR1 can compete with any supercar — at any price.”

- Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be available to consumers starting this spring. Among the amazing facts that accompany the car, a few of the most striking include: its 6.2L supercharged V8 generates 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque; as well, its compressor is bigger than that of the Corvette Z06 and a total of 13 radiators serves to cool the different components.
