The new 2019 Honda Passport made its world debut in Los Angeles last November, and then we saw it at its Canadian premiere at the Montreal Auto Show recently. Now Honda Canada has announced pricing and details for the Canadian market for the highly anticipated, off-road-friendly SUV, which will hit dealerships in March 2019.
The new Passport will come in three versions: the Sport base model, the EX-L and the Touring. All of them will come with Honda’s all-wheel-drive system as standard equipment.
Honda is sliding its new utility model in between the smaller CR-V and the larger, family-oriented Pilot SUV. At the same time, the new model’s starting price of $41,990 is actually higher than that of the Pilot ($41,090), which is a little eyebrow-raising.
For power the new Honda Passport will rely on a 3.5L i-VTEC V6 delivering 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, wedded to a 9-speed automatic transmission. All trims get this setup, and there’s no option for anything else. Also noteworthy is that Honda AWD system, the i-VTM4, as well as a fully independent suspension. All of it sits on Honda’s ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) structure, designed to optimize the vehicle’s performance in off-road situations.
The interior is a voluminous space – according to Honda it’s the most generous in its class in that respect. Notable elements include a large sub-floor cargo area to store objects out of sight and technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a high-resolution 8-sinch screen, heated and ventilated front seats and wireless charging.
