Big SUVs used to be known for their pickup truck-like discomfort, but nowadays, huge advances in suspension and soundproofing have allowed engineers to turn these big vehicles into real living rooms on wheels. In fact, the mere fact that this version is equipped with 18-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tires ensures better absorption of potholes in the road, unlike the 22-inch shoes available on other variants.
What's more, the Expedition has always been known for its overall comfort, the vehicle not being a sporty vehicle with its "marshmallow" suspension. Finally, the vehicle's soundproofing transforms the big Ford into an ideal cocoon for the kids on family trips, which is exactly the primary mission of the full-size SUV.
Aside from the acceleration, impressive for such a heavy vehicle, the Ford Expedition is not among the most exciting vehicles carrying the Ford brand. As mentioned, the big SUV focuses mostly on occupant comfort and, in the case of this variant, increased off-road capabilities. But when it comes to driving pleasure, the Expedition Timberline doesn't really raise the adrenaline level much.

Unsurprisingly, the heaviest of Ford's SUVs comes with a significant thirst for fuel, with the Canadian EnerGuide estimated average of 13.5L/100 km, or 13.9 L/100 km when the vehicle is without the stop-start system. My average was 14.9L/100 km, which I attribute to more urban use than usual. You have to be fairly gentle with the right pedal to keep the EcoBoost V6 from burning a big whole in your wallet.

The cost of gasoline in recent months has dented the appeal of these large utility vehicles, but that feels more like a hiccup. Otherwise, the 2022 Expedition Timberline is simply following the trend of the times with this adventure-ready variant. On the other hand, the Expedition is clearly not the best Ford in the lineup for venturing away from the pavement - the automaker now has on the Bronco, of course. But for those looking for plenty of space and pickup truck towing capacity, this Expedition Timberline may be the answer.
