A smooth ride
With that Super Cruise system, the Cadillac Lyriq will allow semi-autonomous driving. This system is already in place with the Escalade and is usable on over 200,000 miles of road in the United States and Canada.

We also made use of the vehicle’s one-pedal driving function. Cadillac offers a regenerative braking system that can be modulated with a steering wheel paddle, called "Regen on Demand."

The driving experience is immersive. The very quiet interior combined with a multi-link suspension offers a comfortable ride. This is a Cadillac SUV, after all. As such, the available power won't knock you off your feet, at least not in the rear-wheel drive model. Power delivery is pretty gradual and anyways, to be honest, we didn't feel the need to really pound on the accelerator at any point during our test drive.

The seats are very comfortable and can be adjusted to multiple positions. As good luxury seats, they’re heated, ventilated and massaging. The storage spaces are good-sized and the trunk is generous.

Steering is able, but could be a little more precise. The rear-wheel-drive model is not the one that will be most appreciated in Canadian climes, so this version’s handling and driving dynamics are perhaps not the most relevant for what most Canadians will experience. We’re eager to see what the dual-engine model will do on that front.

The last word
Production in the U.S. begins in August. Canada has received 3,300 reservation requests since orders opened. That means if you order a model today, it will be a 2024 model you get. Eventually. We recommend more the all-wheel drive model that will optimize handling and likely add a touch of "oumph" that the entry-level version lacks. But all in all, for $70,000 you still get quite a ride.

We like

Competitive price
Comprehensive offering of equipment
Beautiful lines

We like less

A slight lack of punch off the line (2WD model)
The 20-inch wheels break the overall harmony a bit
The door handles with pressure opening may not be well-suited to winter

The competition

Audi e-tron
BMW iX
Ford Mustang Mach-E
Jaguar I-Pace
Tesla Model Y
