Colourful, costumed, candied… or simply scary!

Halloween is upon us, and because we know that you’re particularly mindful of being extra careful out on the road on this day of trick-or-treating, we’ll skip the rejoinders to be vigilant about safety (but still, be vigilant!!).

Instead the Auto123.com team figured we’d have a little fun, and rummage through the long list of currently available cars, SUVs and trucks to find those that best fit today’s theme. Here’s to tricks, treats, costumes and witchcraft!

The five “winners”, in our “expert” opinion:

“Pumpkin” CategoryChevrolet Equinox

The Equinox takes it in the category that honours those cars with rounded edges and a vibrant orange colour, with honourable mention going to the Honda Fit, Fiat 500, Nissan Qashqai, Subaru Crosstrek and Hyundai Tucson.

“Candy” CategoryMitsubishi Mirage

We could have shown you a Sunflower Yellow Hyundai Accent or a Candy Blue Ford Fiesta, but as we’ve got a weakness for the liquid candy you get from grapes, this red wine-coloured Mitsubishi Mirage forced our hand. Put it in a glass!

“Disguise” CategoryHonda Civic Type R

In Canada we’re quite used to seeing the uber-popular and easily recognizable Civic on our roads and our neighborhoods, even if the new 10th-generation edition is still pretty new to our towns. But you’ll need to look closely to identify the Type R, a Civic disguised as a 306-hp sports car. Its costume includes a more-aggressive front end, large air intakes, contrasting red lines, sporty 20-inch wheels, three exhaust tips (of different sizes!) and, of course, an enormous rear spoiler.

“Monster” Category Ford F-450

Smaller children may get quite a fright when encountering the gargantuan, powerful F-450 truck, especially when it’s decked out in black and sporting double rear wheels. Under the hood lurks a 6.7L PowerStroke V8 diesel engine developing 440 hp and 925 lb-ft of torque. Best get out of the way!

“Fear and Superstition” CategoryDodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Beware the black cat crossing your path! On Halloween night, the most frightening and infernal machine out there just has to be this 707-hp Hellcat, which takes all of 3 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h. Of course, if you’re a fan of muscle cars, you may not mind so much if this particular cat crosses your path!
