American car manufacturers, like most other companies in any given field, are so obsessed with the next quarterly report and the bigger profits generated by the sale of big SUVs - which use a well known technology when it is not obsolete - prefer to seduce people into buying these types of vehicles in the short term. That's where they can compete with foreign car companies, because in all other categories, they lose ground everyday. Problem is, that way of doing things is suicidal, in my humble opinion.
I couldn't help but find pitiful the new hybrid truck from General Motors. Not only are its batteries leaded, which in itself is an environmental no-no, but it only makes it 10% more efficient! The Ford hybrid SUV is a much more serious contender.
I am not an all-out fan of Japanese cars. I know quite well that American cars are built better and better every year, and nowadays even surpass many European companies in quality. But it is clear that American cars are way behind the Japanese and the Europeans models where it comes to fuel economy, green gas emissions and air pollution. Considering the fact that they want to make themselves less dependant on Middle-Eastern oil, the most efficient and easy way would be for them to burn less gas...
