If you weren't aware already, the Acura CSX (previously known as the EL) is a Canadian-only offering. The compact entry-level Acura has proven to be popular in the past but now, as the car (and its twin, the Civic) is getting older, steam has clearly run out.
The Civic is slated for a rebirth early on in 2011. At first, we had our doubts about the return of the CSX or an equivalent but now, we've found out that Acura has registered the name IL.
Alphabetically, it would slot itself as the lowest in Acura's line-up, knowing that the higher-scale models sport higher (closer to Z) names. Get it? TSX, TL, RL, all preceed by IL...
We're also assuming that this would mean the introduction of a compact Acura to the US market, coinciding with the long-awaited new Civic. We're guessing that Acura is looking to compete head-to-head with the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3.
