Alfa Romeo Brera Special - Giorgetto Designed It But Will Alfa Build It?

It has been close to ten year's since the Alfa Romeo brand has been available new in Canada, but word has it they're headed back this way before 2005. It's more likely that they will be sold at Ferrari-Maserati dealerships than GM showrooms, even though parent company Fiat Auto shareholder General Motors is the main impetus behind the brands return.

If this Giorgetto Giugiaro designed 2+2 coupe is a sign of what may be in the future, Alfa Romeo won't have any problems convincing North Americans to invest in the Italian manufacturer's products once again. But before I go on describing this tantalizing piece of machinery, let's make one thing perfectly clear. Despite the logo adorning Alfa's trademark grille, this is not an Alfa Romeo. It's an Italdesign (Giugiaro's design company) concept car that has hopes of winning over Alfa's approval.

Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show to unanimous admiration, the Brera shares much of its underpinnings with Maserati's new Spyder and Coupe. Incidentally, Maserati is owned by Ferrari, whose majority shareholder is Fiat Auto, hence the parts bin sharing.
