The Toyota dealership, located at 6807 de Lorimier in Montreal, has taken a "green" initiative by announcing, inspired by the Kyoto protocol, their intention to distribute 10,500 trees over five years, which amounts to 2,010 trees a year.

According to Mr. Denis Archambault, the dealership's president and the current president of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association's board of directors (the CADA), "every dealership has its part of responsibility to take concerning the Kyoto protocol". In fact, Canadian businesses will have to pitch in to help attain the objectives of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by 2010, and Alix Toyota wants to do their part.

Mr. Archambault also noted that that it's not by forcing people to take action that will work, but by becoming the leader in a community from an ecologic standpoint, which in return will inspire others in the same neighbourhood to also take the necessary measures.

The dealership has set up a "pilot" informational evening, inviting a targeted clientele of people who are environmentally concerned, or who have asked for more information about Toyota's hybrid products. They accepted the invitation, and Mr. Archambault informed them of the dealership's project and what steps to take in order to adopt a tree. They also received information on the efforts they can do in order to help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. Finally, they were invited to test drive Toyota's hybrid Prius models that were put to their disposition. Alix Toyota intends to hold two similar meetings, one in February to mark the Kyoto Protocol's anniversary, and one in September to underline Earth Day.

The first adopted trees will be distributed in the week of May 20th.

If you're interested in adopting a tree at Alix Toyota, Mr. Archambault invites you to drop by the dealership, or fill out this online form: [CLICK HERE]

We bet that other dealerships will soon follow through with a similar initiative.
