NEW YORK — Mitsubishi Motors today unveiled the all-new 2002 Lancer at the 101st annual New York Auto Show. A spacious interior, European-inspired exterior styling and a host of luxury features give the Lancer a level of sophistication and class not found in other small sedans in the American marketplace.

"Lancer represents a big step forward for Mitsubishi Motors and will significantly increase our sales in the compact sedan segment," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA). "With great style, a long list of standard features and abundant space, the new Lancer is the perfect car for young people and new families."

The 2002 Lancer, which takes its name from the Mitsubishi Motors World Rally Championship model, will be available in three distinct models and each will have a unique personality. The O-Z(R) Rally edition incorporates race-inspired appearance enhancements for a sporty look and feel. O-Z(R) Racing wheels, front, side and rear air dams, white-faced gauges and metallic tone interior accents highlight this model. The ES serves as the value leader of the Lancer family. The LS rounds out the Lancer range with luxurious appointments and a premium look that is not usually associated with this segment.

Lancer incorporates a large greenhouse for excellent visibility while also providing an airy, spacious cabin. The high roofline combines with a long wheelbase and cab-forward design to create 93.9 cu. ft. of passenger room -- enough for five adults to ride in comfort.
