With the AMA Superbike series getting an overhaul in 2009, this weekend victory at Laguna Seca by Mat Mladin marks the end of an era. The Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki ace concluded the season with the 72nd win of his career while having won more than 55 poles.
For the last time, two of the greatest drivers in the history of the series, Mat Mladin and teammate Ben Spies have competed on the same track.
While Ben Spies finished 2nd, he suffered a poor start and had to fight hard to get back to his starting position. Suzuki's Tommy Hayden finished third in front of another Suzuki driver Aaron Yates.
Hodgson completed the top five on his American Honda CBR1000RR, followed by Bostrom and Miguel DuHamel and Bostrom's teammate, Jason DiSalvo.
