What a difference only a month can make. 30 days ago, we reported that Chrysler, Hyundai Kia would likely be climbing up the sales charts. Well, none of that happened in August, as GM, Toyota and Mazda held on to their rankings. But the year ain’t over yet.

Ford once again popped the champagne as the bestselling vehicle brand in Canada, followed closely by General Motors. Chrysler is enjoying a good increase in sales over the same period last year, although 2010 wasn’t exactly a good reference point.

Some Japanese brands are still feeling the pain of a limited supply of vehicles: -30% for Honda, -20% for Subaru, -13% for Mazda. On the other hand, Toyota sales rose by 10% in August compared to last year, Nissan sales are up by 11%, while Mitsubishi sold 30% more vehicles last month.

Overall, light vehicle sales rose by 3.2% in August 2011 compared to 2010, and we’re still buying more trucks than cars.
