2022 GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR (eligible for government rebates)

Introduced by our panels of experts last year, the category of green models that are eligible for government rebates is back this year, as we have a similar picture to last year in terms of incentives. The EV segment is dynamic, to say the least, and it's going to evolve quickly with the release of a dozen new vehicles this year and more next year.
For now, the models that most impressed us are the Kia EV6, is close cousin the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Kia Niro EV. Congratulations, finalists. The certainty is that a Korean model is bound to win... which tells us a lot about the commitment and ambitions of the Hyundai automotive group when it comes to electrification.
In 2023 and 2024, these models will face increased competition from, among others, General Motors products, which is about to get aggressive with the launch of several EVs. When the sticker price goes up with electrical models, the subsidies fall away. Some vehicles are priced at a level that allows for a rebate at the provincial level, but not at the federal level. We have grouped these into this non-eligible category to facilitate the process.
This doesn't make the choice any easier, though, because there are many standout players on the field. Our finalists, after much discussion and voting: the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Audi e-tron GT, and the Porsche Taycan.
