Iconic roadster is back on the coastal roads of California

BMW is today unveiling a limited special edition of its new 2019 BMW Z4 in a world premiere at Pebble Beach near Monterey, California during Monterey Car Week.

With its dynamic shape and sporty design, not to mention its performance capabilities, the little convertible will be a redoubtable rival to the likes of Mazda’s MX-5.

The German automaker’s BMW Z4 M40i First Edition features several exclusive style, design and performance elements.

You’ll recall that BMW had unveiled the concept version of the Z4 at the same west coast location in 2017, during the same event. With its central sitting position for the driver, low centre of gravity, perfectly balanced 50/50 axle load distribution, wide tracks and compact wheelbase, the BMW Z4, has, according to its manufacturer, everything needed to supply inspiringly agile handling and intense driving pleasure.

The special First Edition is served by an inline-6 engine (output, 340 hp) as well as a sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport differential in the rear axle transmission. BMW says the M Performance-created roadster takes a mere 4.6 seconds to sprint from a stop to 100 km/h.

In terms of its design, the new Z4 sports vertically aligned headlights, BMW’s distinctive kidney grille sporting a mesh design, a hood stretching sports car-like over the wheels, large air breathers on the front wheel arches and a distinctive spoiler integrated into the rear lid.

Inside, the design of the interior is unsurprisingly focused on the driver-oriented cockpit, underscored by dynamic forward-oriented lines and the clearly structured arrangement of all control modules.

The limited edition integrates a number of unique design elements and equipment. The Frozen Orange metallic finish contrasts with the power-operated textile soft top in anthracite with silver effect, the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, black exterior mirror caps and 19-inch light alloy wheels boasting a bicolour, double spoke design. The interior also features Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats with memory function, available ambient lighting and a premium Harman/kardon Surround Sound audio system.

The BMW Z4 M40i First Edition gives us a foretaste not only of the Z4 model, which is set to launch commercially in spring 2019, but also the next generation of BMW roadsters to come.

In the meantime, BMW promises detailed information regarding trims, equipment and powertrain configurations on September 19, 2018, and will unveil the actual model at the Paris auto show on October 14.
