Round 9 of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship was made quite interesting as pole-sitter Sasha Anis, who had broken the track record in qualifying with a lap of 1:29.676, managed to hold his lead to win in the Super Touring class on his Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Anis was followed by Arek Wojciechoski who managed to take third place from Dean Fantin when he lost his BMW 330i in a 360 and two laps later second place on ST class leader Richard Boake (Subaru STi).
A failure from Anis’ crew to obey procedures means he will however lose all points of victory.
In the Touring class, P.J. Groenke was on his way to a victory after overtaking four cars to lead the class but an unexpected stop to remove his rear bumper made him lose a precious time he was never able to get back.
Michel Sallenback (MINI Cooper S), Tom Kwok and his brother Gary took advantage of this and continued a battle for the win. Gary finally had the best of them all a few laps before the end of the race. His brother Tom still leads the Touring class championship.
On Round 10 Sunday, Wojciechowski took his first victory in the series in the last minute of the second race of the weekend, in Mosport, winning by 0.014 seconds ahead of rival Richard Boake who led every other lap after a front steering control breach sent pole-sitter Sasha Anis in the tires.
Dean Fantin completed the ST class podium.
Gary Kwok proved Sunday to be a bad day for pole-sitters with a broken wheel that also sent him in the tires in the Touring class.
Kurt Langevelt, Michel Sallenbach and P.J. Groenke were then on the victory hunt, battling hard at the front and eventually damaging all three cars in a contact.
