In the wake of shifting electric vehicle adoption and costly EV write-downs, General Motors is reportedly reconsidering the departure of one of its most iconic nameplates. After retiring the Chevrolet Camaro after the 2024 model-year, GM has apparently greenlit plans to resurrect the badge. Only this time, there will be a more practical four-door sedan configuration sitting alongside the traditional coupe in showrooms.
The shift toward a four-door muscle car positions Chevrolet to compete directly with Ford’s rumoured Mustang sedan, while filling the void left by the previous-generation Dodge Charger.
Built on the rear-wheel-drive Alpha 2 platform shared with the next-generation Cadillac CT5, the new Camaro sedan will be assembled at GM's Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. While initial reports pointed to a 2028 production launch, it’s now looking more likely it will debut for the 2029 model-year.

Visually, the modern Camaro is expected to move away from retro styling in favour of Chevrolet’s latest design language, featuring ultra-slim LED headlight clusters, an illuminated Bowtie emblem and updated four-unit taillight graphics.

Under the hood, GM plans to bypass timid commuter setups in favour of pure performance. Rumours point to the inclusion of GM's new naturally aspirated 6.7L LS6 V8—expected to debut in the 2027 Corvette lineup with at least 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque.
Higher in the range, a flagship variant featuring a supercharged V8 producing over 700 hp is reportedly in development. Its output would eclipse that of the previous Camaro ZL1.
In returning the Camaro to life, GM will have balance handling agility and V8 muscle against strict cost controls. Mindful that Ford is targeting a sub-$40,000 USD starting price for its four-door Mustang, Chevrolet will need to price the Camaro competitively to avoid overlapping with its Cadillac sibling or premium European sport sedans.
