Chevrolet will get into the 4-door compact pickup truck market this fall with the creation of the 2001 Chevy S-10 Crew Cab 4x4 Pickup.

The official take on the new pickup, as espoused by Debra Kelly-Ennis, S-10 Pickup brand manager, is that the S-10 "in any configuration is about durability, functionality and value."

But with four real doors and seating for five, she adds, "the new Chevy S-10 Crew Cab pickup takes functionality to a new dimension. It brings a new level of versatility to the Chevy S-10 family that already boasts one of the most diverse product lines in the industry."

According to Kelly-Ennis, the Chevy S-10 Crew Cab Pickup's combination of ruggedness, utility and car-like comfort will strike a chord among a variety of customers.

She plays up the bi-polar nature of the design by pointing out that the sport utility customer now has a place to stow dirty cargo without fear of soiling the interior of the pickup.

Kelly-Ennis also thinks the more maneuverable nature of the compact S-10 will appeal to many people, as will its propensity to take up less space in a garage than a full-size pickup.

The key dimensions here are a width of 1725 mm, a height of 1610 mm, and a length of 5202 mm.Like all 4-wheeldrive S-10 Pickups, the new S-10 Crew Cab comes standard with the Vortec 4300 V6, which produces 190 horsepower at 4400 rpm and 250 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm.
