Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling 1.3 million Ram trucks in North America due to a possible electrical short. Affected models include the 2012-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 as well as the 2012-2014 Ram Chassis-Cab 3500, 4500 and 5500.
The number of units targeted by this recall in Canada amounts to 235,925.
What exactly is the problem? In some cases, steering-wheel wiring harnesses may wear because of contact with a spring. Such wear may cause a short-circuit that could lead to inadvertent driver-side airbag deployment. FCA is aware of two related injuries, but no accidents.
Another recall involves 188,000 Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickups from 2014-2015. It appears their side curtain airbags may not comply with a federal regulation to reduce the risk of rear occupant ejection during a rollover. No incident has been reported yet, however.
