Chrysler finally backtracked on the controversial decision by its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, to abandon the Dodge Grand Caravan within a couple of years to erase duplicate vehicles, instead opting for a more market-friendly solution.
When the next-generation minivan arrives in 2013, the automaker will keep only the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada. The opposite will apply south of the border, where the Chrysler Town & Country will get the nod.
Both models will still be manufactured in Windsor, Ontario.
Logical choice
With 46,971 units sold in Canada during the first 10 months of 2011, the Dodge Grand Caravan (the third best-selling vehicle in the country) proves to be roughly 12 times more popular than the Town & Country.
In the US, however, Chrysler's minivan traditionally outsells its entry-level cousin 2-to-1. Ironically, such is not the case so far this year: The Grand Caravan (92,930 units) leads all minivan sales including the Town & Country (78,255 units).
