A week after testing the Ducati 848EVO at the Calabogie Motorsports Park, with stifling heat almost reaching the mid-30s, I was invited to the 2012 Yamaha marine product launch event on a brisk September day where the temperature dropped to 14 degrees.
The weather fashionably worked against our wishes. We also faced a good 25-km/h wind from the north and some pretty menacing clouds. And of course it rained. Thanks a lot, Mother Nature!
While things didn't start off the way I hoped they would, I sure was anxious to find out the models I would be trying out. I'm lucky enough to have one of the most fascinating jobs in the world – riding, comparing and reporting about all kinds of motor toys.
Obviously, I came prepared. I had my wetsuit, wet shoes, drysuit, and full-face helmet. That's right! When you hit the lake at more than 100 km/h and the wind creates 3-foot waves that constantly throw water at your face, it can feel like a January hailstorm.
We were at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario – a splendid venue to test-ride four different Yamahas, including the all-new WaveRunner FX Cruiser HO and FX Cruiser SHO, as well as the AR190 and SX210 jet boats. It was cold as heck out there, but I must say I had a blast! Tomorrow morning at 8, the forecast is 12 degrees... and I'll be back for sure. This is so much fun!
Don't miss my complete review of the 2012 Yamaha marine products over the next few days on moto123.com.
